Oi Bonita! Here is what to expect from Advanced Resurfacing Treatment, but is ART?

Advanced Resurfacing Treatment  aka Microneedling, creates tiny injuries to the skin. The skin will remodel due to these injuries. With the initial inflammatory response, your immune system disinfects the wounds, removes debris, increases blood flow and creates new tissue. The wounds are rebuilt with new dermal tissue and a new network of blood vessels develops. The skin has a healthy glow and appears rejuvenated after just one treatment. ART is a great treatment to boost new collagen, which we make less of as we age. With a series of 4 treatments spaced every 3 weeks, we can reverse signs of aging, as well as improve the appearance of acne scarring, scars, and stretch marks. Microneedling is very popular because it does not create much down time. Clients might be red after the treatment for a few hours, but can generally resume a normal social life the next day. One of the most amazing added benefits to  the skin, is how it allows products to penetrate much more than when applied normally.

Advanced Resurfacing Treatment Process

Prior to the ART treatment, numbing cream is applied. The treatment takes less than 30 to 45 minutes to perform and there is only mild discomfort. After the treatment, there may be redness and the skin can feel inflamed or warm. This generally resolves over a few hours and by the next day the skin has calmed and makeup can be applied. Over the next few days post treatment, you could feel a sandpapery texture to your skin from the micro injuries that are healing. Use only the recommended post care products during the healing time. As always, proper communication pre and post treatment are essential to successful treatment.

Do’s & Don’t  About ART

Wearing Makeup

Since microneedling causes temporary skin redness, most clients are interested in wearing makeup after their treatment. However, it’s important to avoid applying anything, apart from the post skincare products recommended for at least 90 minutes. After 90 minutes, many clients choose to stay makeup-free to give their skin more time to breathe.
If you want to wear makeup so you can return to work without looking red, mineral powder is an ideal choice. Make sure to use a clean brush when you apply it to avoid introducing bacteria to your skin.

Washing Your Face

As far as washing your face after microneedling goes, you should only use  gentle cleanser and soothing and hydrating products for 5 days. Make sure to apply the product using light, circular hand motions, and don’t use a facial cleansing brush. Around day five, you should be able to resume your regular skin care routine.

Applying Skin Care Products

We will provide you with a week’s worth of post care products to use after your treatment. This high-quality product is designed to pair well with the ART service and enhance your results. We have full-size products available for purchase as well!
When using the serums, gels, and creams you have at home, avoid products that contain active ingredients such as retinol. These products will likely irritate your skin during this time of increased sensitivity.
Applying moisturizer is particularly crucial after microneedling, especially from day two to four, when the skin tends to experience trans-epidermal moisture loss. Due to the micro-injury caused by the treatment, water can temporarily pass more easily from the dermis through the epidermis and evaporate. Keep your recommended moisturizer on hand and apply it as frequently as necessary to avoid feeling dry.

Avoiding Sun Exposure

Too much sun exposure is never good for the skin. It can cause damage and contribute to concerns such as visible aging and pigmentation issues. You should limit your time in the sun and a wear broad-spectrum SPF, as microneedling temporarily increases skin sensitivity. After the healing phase is complete, continue to wear sunscreen daily to protect your healthy new skin cells.

Exercising & Sweating

If you’re loyal to an intense fitness routine, you’ll need to take a day or two off. We advise patients to avoid sweaty exercise right after microneedling, as it can contribute to irritation and swelling while potentially exposing the skin to bacteria.
